Tech Notes: Music
Your network's branded music player widget is a great and easy way to spread the word about you and your network, and you can embed it externally into almost any other website out there. You can share it on Facebook or MySpace or add it to one of 15 other services in just one click, or you can grab the embed code and paste it into your own website or blog.
The Ning MP3 player is called a Music player but your administrator can rename it in the player under the ‘manage features’ prompt.
Storytelling audio should be under 10 minutes when possible, unless the tale is riveting. Web surfers tend to have short attention spans; there is so much video offered on the web that your audio needs to be very good, or they are off to someone else’s page.
If you have not recorded an MP3 file before, now is the time to give it a try. You can download Audacity for Pc or a Mac for free at:
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download
If you own a Mac click on Garage band in your applications or on your desktop; either of these programs are a good start for a storyteller.
At the quick start click on: Music
A pop up window will appear. Click on the browse pull down window. Your computer files will appear. Go to your MP3 and choose one that is under 20MB in size and please only upload a story if you have permission to do so from the artist, or you are the copyright holder.
Under the browser window and above the Add Music is the statement
“I have the right to upload this song under the Terms of Service.”
You should read the terms of service first. You are implying you are in agreement when you upload the story. Whether you have read Terms of Service or not, you are still bound to those terms.
