Hope to see you at my course, 'Boosting Learning Standards with Storytelling' at Sharing the Fire Conference

Hi,

I'm off to Warwick, RI this weekend for the annual Sharing the Fire Northeast Storytelling Conference. I'd encourage anyone interested in Storytelling to try to take advantage of what this conference offers. There are at least 25 courses to select from, 2 terrific concerts and storytelling swaps. I've been teaching at this conference for 10 years now; everything from storytelling in classrooms to voice classes, accents in storytelling and coaching voice for storytellers using character… Continue

I have not read any prose thing of mine yet at MOOSE's Weds. nights at the NS, but I am a regular at Port Veritas's Tuesday night and a board member of PV. I'm not a slammer, however, so I wouldn't call what I do "performing" if that means a lot of actor-like drama. If that's what you put on, then I suppose I might not fit, but I have a story, in the vein of a Child's Christmas in Wales, about summer camp, takes about 10 mins to read (really, I don't mean 20), and is prose in a Dylan Thomas kind of way. I've never been able to read it in one piece. Is there room on Weds eve to read such a piece?

It all started years ago.my son and brother went to Castine and fort George with our metal detectors to see if we could find some thing of interest. after scanning for a while we got a real strong reading so started to dig in that spot. we went real deep and finally found some iron straps and a wooden container, in side was some bones. We quickly covered them up and refilled the hole so no one would ever know that we had been digging there. While we were digging a couple from Mass. came by and…See More

The OLD PERKINS HOUSE As a very young kid the story went that the Old Perkins House at the top of Dyers Lane was haunted but being a young one we never took much stork in those tales. I lived in the old Bert Stover farm house at the bottom of State St. which was a cross the 6th fairway of the Castine golf course. So when me and my brothers wanted to go to play with our friends which lived down Dyers lane and on Water street, we always used the short cut which went right by the West corner of…See More

The Sound of Iron Wheels on the Dirt RoadThis story was told to me by my brother. and he swears it is the truth. Many years ago when we where in our teens our older brother had to take just about any job there was and being just married and with a small child places in Castine were hard to find to rent. So there was a old house called The Old Fox Farm way down in a field at the point of Wadsworth Cove. The only way anyone could get to it was going through the cemetery and on a very rough dirt…See More

Sharing the Fire

I am just back from our New England Storytelling regional conference "Sharing the Fire".  My storytelling fire is renewed, and I am eager to share new tales and new insights.I will be beginning to teach the Readers' Theatre II course for Downeast Senior College this coming Monday: yet another way to share life changing stories. In addition, I just got the acceptance of my proposal to reprise that course for Acadia Senior College this Fall. Too much laughter in one place can be addictive, I…See More
