I am pleased to become a member of M.O.O.S.E. I recently moved back to my home state of Maine after wandering in the midwest for the past 20 years. I am a professor of education at University of Maine Farmington. It is a joy to make teachers of reading and writing. I require all of my students to learn some basic storytelling techniques and tell a story to a group of children. This assignment is most feared but by the end of the semester, students report that the storytelling experience was amazing and storytelling will become a useful technique for the classroom.
In 2010 I will celebrate 40 years as an educator from first grade to higher education with many interesting positions in between. I am convinced that storytelling is the vehicle by which we will teach the world to live peacefully--one person at a time; one story at a time.
I miss the Bluff Country Talespinners, the storytelling guild I helped to create in LaCrosse, Wi. But my heart has been warmed by the welcoming spirit of the M.O.O.S.E members and I look forward to a long and enjoyable association with this group. Thank you for your friendly welcome.
While I tell many stories for children and adult audiences, I have most recently begun to develop my personal stories. Ultimately I have developed a collection of stories of truth and wisdom.
