Living and traveling in Europe, England and Saudi Arabia, the product of a Swedish father and very-British mother added plenty of spice to storyteller Nicolette Nordin Heavey’s culture soup. Customs and family backgrounds simmered; rituals and traditions often caused the pot to boil over. The result – a very non-traditional stew. Nicolette promises an evening of poignancy and laughs, from the family tale of how a Christmas cookie recipe originated from a young German girl brought to England after WWII, to trying, as a young mother, to “blend” holiday traditions with a disastrous result. You may even hear her award winning story of being a felon! Nicolette’s tales are bright, vibrant, bubbly and told with a twinkle in her eye but all may not be as it seems on the surface when you sit down to hear her tales! Come and enjoy this delightful performer!
Nicolette Nordin Heavey lived a “storied” childhood. The product of a Swedish father and very-British mother; she lived and travelled in Europe and the Middle East. Accents, cultures, and customs come to play in both her rendition of traditional folktales and in her personal narratives. Nicolette delights the very youngest listener as a Bright Horizons roster performer and workshop leader, as well as performing at libraries, bookstores, elementary and middle schools. She is a teachers and program manager of massmouth’s StoriesLive program which teaches personal narrative in high schools. She has successfully competed in massmouth’s story slam seasons and was awarded 3rd place in the 2010 Big MouthOff. She has performed at the Kimmelman Theatre. Philadelphia with First Person Arts, 2010 Sharing the Fire Conference, Rhode Island; and 2006 Three Apples Storytelling Festival, Massachussetts. She can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org
