Fall is busy in LOONS (Lovers Of Old & New Stories) country.  LOONS Stephen Berger, Jude Lamb and Hope Lewis began the season with a refreshing and inspiring visit with Jackson Gillman.  What fun! * All three LOONS are working on a storytelling service for the Ellsworth UU Congregation in November.  Also on tap for the season:  Hope will be presenting a program for fourth-graders at Connors-Emerson School in Bar Harbor, Jude and Hope will be telling at the Ellsworth Library in October.  Discussion continues with Acadia National Park representatives to plan a "Storytelling in the Park" series for next season.  Also, starting Sept 14th Hope begins teaching the Acadia Senior College course "Jewish Folklore and Story".  In October, Hope offers a reprise of her "Storytelling" course for the Down East Senior College.  Other upcoming dates include an evening "Story Walk" for Southwest Harbor Library. * We have a special treat for our LOONS meeting in October, Portland area teller Bill Hinderer will be joining us for our meeting on the 7th!  * Who knows what we will all hatch next! It all started years ago.my son and brother went to Castine and fort George with our metal detectors to see if we could find some thing of interest. after scanning for a while we got a real strong reading so started to dig in that spot. we went real deep and finally found some iron straps and a wooden container, in side was some bones. We quickly covered them up and refilled the hole so no one would ever know that we had been digging there. While we were digging a couple from Mass. came by and…See More

So there was a old house called The Old Fox Farm way down in a field at the point of Wadsworth Cove. The only way anyone could get to it was going through the cemetery and on a very rough dirt…See More

Sharing the Fire

I am just back from our New England Storytelling regional conference "Sharing the Fire".  My storytelling fire is renewed, and I am eager to share new tales and new insights.I will be beginning to teach the Readers' Theatre II course for Downeast Senior College this coming Monday: yet another way to share life changing stories. In addition, I just got the acceptance of my proposal to reprise that course for Acadia Senior College this Fall. Too much laughter in one place can be addictive, I…See More
