Folk Tales for Life Project
June 4th and 5th 2009



This innovative event, to take place here in Portland Maine, will offer adults a chance to drink deeply from the wisdom of traditional folk tales and to explore their relevance today.

This is a two day event. All events will be open to the public.

Thursday evening June 4th: a public lecture by visiting artist Nancy Mellon talking on her latest award winning book**

“Body Eloquence: The Power of Myth and Story to Awaken the Body's Energies”
Cost $10

Friday June 5th she will be giving a workshop from 9-noon. Cost $30

This Workshop by Nancy Mellon will continue the conversation of organic storytelling based on her book, winner of USA Books award for the best in Alternative Medicine category for 2008


Both her talk and workshop will focus on the healing power of story. The location for both of Nancy Mellon's presentations will be at the Maine Audubon Society Center Gilsland Farm on 20 Gilsland Farm Road, Falmouth, Me.


There will be free family public performances at Noon in and around Monument Square and Post Office Park in Portland. MOOSEtellers will perform folk tales from around the world.

Performing at Monument Square is Vernon Cox and Susan Dries.
Performing at Post Office Park is Meg Gillman, Deena Weinstein and Jean Armstrong


The project will conclude Friday evening with an adult performance by storytellers who have integrated traditional folktales with their own personal stories.

Vernon Cox, Sarah Halford, and Jo Radner with a few surprises.

8pm- 9:30 Williston West Church, Thomas St. (west end) Portland. Cost $10


The Folk Tales for Life Project is a groundbreaking event that has just been awarded the National Storytelling Network
Year of the Regions matching grant for $1000 as the representative for the Northeast Region.
